The Smiling Monad Community Centre
Support for the whole family
Understand what is happening, organise the next steps, find practical and financial support, protect family relationships and prepare for the future without reducing the person you love to a diagnosis.
Personal pathway
Begin with what you have noticed and what your child needs in everyday life. The Centre has selected six useful starting steps; complete them in any order.

Learn what the diagnosis may help explain, what it cannot predict and how to keep strengths, relationships and everyday life central.
Useful result: A family understanding that supports hope and practical action.
Review official carer payments, concessions, employment considerations and care-related costs without guessing eligibility.
Useful result: A list of official checks and documents to prepare.
Identify the family, friends, workers and professionals who should be involved, and what each person may access.
Useful result: A smaller, clearer support network with consent-based roles.
Identify counselling, coaching, peer support, respite or a trusted person who can help before exhaustion becomes a crisis.
Useful result: At least one support that is for you, not only the person you care for.
